Mainland and Hong Kong cooperate on safety inspections

Guangzhou: Guangdong Maritime Safety Administration and Shenzhen Maritime Safety Administration will join with Hong Kong Marine Department to start a concentrated inspection campaign from September 1 to 30.

Hong Kong Marine Department will select mainland coastal container carriers trading to Hong Kong for preliminary inspection which will focus on Automatic Identification System installation, maintenance and crew familiarisation with operating the equipment.

A detailed inspection is required if the conditions of a vessel are not up to standard during the preliminary inspection. Vessels with serious defects detected may be detained until such defects are rectified.[23/08/12]
