Manila eyes LNG imports from Canada and Brunei

Manila: The Energy Department is looking to buy liquefied natural gas from Canada and Brunei as the Philippines prepares for far greater energy use in the future.

Energy Secretary Carlos Jericho Petilla said talks were ongoing with Canada and Brunei for a possible LNG supply agreement.

“I want to get involved in the pricing scheme for LNG. We have no facility now so I want to find out where we are in terms of pricing,” Petilla said, who recently visited Canada for an LNG forum.

Petilla also said Brunei Petroleum had expressed interest to construct an LNG facility in the southern Philippine island Mindanao.  [08/04/13]
