More Vietnamese seafarers eyed

 

Ho Chi Minh City:  Vietnam is bolstering its seafarer numbers, aiming to more than double the number working on international merchant ships. An extra 39,000 officers and ratings will be trained in the coming years, according to Captain Tieu Van Kinh, chairman of Vietnam's Captains Club.
 
At the moment around 18,000 Vietnamese work on foreign merchant ships.  [10/10/12]
