Motia Compagnia di Navigazione sells MR to Maersk

London: Italy’s Motia Compagnia di Navigazione has sold an MR product tanker to Maersk for $21.5m, brokers have confirmed to Splash.

The Giacinta (50,000 dwt, built 2010) has a current market value of $25.38m, which is slightly higher than the sum paid, according to online valuation platform VesselsValue.com.

The vessel is the seventh MR that Maersk has added to its fleet over the course of the past year. At the end of November, Maersk signed a deal to acquire four 50,000-dwt MR newbuildings from Greece’s Horizon Tankers for $34.8m apiece. The vessels are expected to hit the water this year.

In summer last year, Nord Fast (40,100 dwt, built 2008) was bought from Norden for $20.4m, and Eastern Force (48,100 dwt, built 2009) for $21.5m from Japan’s MEC.
