Murphy terminates Transocean drillship contract

Transocean has announced today that Murphy Oil subsidiary, Murphy Exploration and Production, has terminated its contract for ultra-deepwater drillship Discoverer Deep Seas.

The 2001-built drillship was on a three-year contract with Murphy at $604,000 per day until November.

Transocean said that it will be compensated for the early termination through a lump-sum payment that includes adjustments for operating costs.

The vessel was operating in the US Gulf of Mexico.
