NTSB shows video and images of sunken El Faro

The first images showing the sunken El Faro lying 15,000ft beneath the sea off the coast of Crooked Island in the Bahamas have emerged three months after it lost power and sank during Hurricane Joaquin, killing all 33 people onboard.

The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) released the images and video showing the various parts of the 40-year-old vessel. The NTSB said it is mulling a second trip to the ocean floor to search for the ship’s voyage data recorder.

No signs of the 33 missing seafarers have been found.

“There were no human remains found whatsoever, and no personal effects whatsoever,” lead investigator Tom Roth-Roffy said. “I think we found one boot.”

The owner of El Faro, Tote Maritime, is facing multiple lawsuits from families of the deceased crew.
