Oil discovery off Norway

Friday started with some good news after a week of depressing tales for the Norwegian offshore sector. There has been a small oil discovery in the North Sea.

Statoil has found some oil from the Oseberg field in the North Sea, the Norwegian Petroleum Directorate reports. Preliminary estimates indicate that the size is between 1m to 2m cu m of recoverable oil equivalents. This discovery will be developed together with the Oseberg Delta 2 project which is under development.

The find is a boost in what has been a tricky week for the Norwegian offshore sector with plenty more companies announcing redundancies.
