Panama Canal clocks 2,000th neopanamax transit since expansion

The Panama Canal has marked a milestone with the transit of the 2,000th neopanamax ship since its June 2016 expansion.

Canal expansion, a $5.3bn project which involved construction of a new set of third locks, was intended exactly so that the 50-mile waterway could accommodate the new generation of bigger commercial vessels.

The landmark transit was made by the 2006-built COSCO Yantian.
