Petrobras regaining Norwegian trust

Oslo: Norwegian financial intuition GIEK, who financed Skandi Africa, the ship that was awarded Ship of the Year 2015 at Nor-Shipping, said it will renew business ties with scandal-hit Brazilian energy major Petrobras soon.

The news came from GIEK CEO Wenche Nistad, who was speaking at a conference in Nor-Shipping today.

She said that she had long discussions with Petrobras and she was positive that Petrobras had taken the corruption case seriously and was in the process of cleaning up its act. The Brazil conglomerate has been hit by a corruption scandal involving billions of dollars.

The Norwegian Export Credit Guarantee Agency (GIEK) is a public enterprise subject to the Storting (the Norwegian parliament) and the Norwegian government.

GIEK and Petrobras signed several cooperation agreements over the last five years and provided financial guarantees of up to $1bn.
