Petrofac heads to ZPMC for new offshore construction vessel

Shanghai: Shanghai Zhenhua Heavy Industries (ZPMC) has won a contract to build an offshore construction vessel for oil and gas service provider Petrofac.

The vessel, a deepwater derrick lay vessel, is scheduled for delivery in 2017 and is to be built to a new proprietary design Petrofac JSD 6000, a customised Ulstein SOC 5000 developed by Dutch design company Ulstein Sea of Solutions. It will provide Petrofac with access to high-end turnkey opportunities in the high growth deepwater and SURF markets, and expand access to shallow water EPCI projects.

“These orders mark the next major step in Petrofac’s strategic evolution, which is built on the expansion and enhancement of our expertise and capabilities from our core areas into markets where we can provide a differentiated offer to our customers,” Ayman Asfari, ceo of Petrofac commented.
