Port of LA releases oil terminal environmental study

The Port of Los Angeles on Thursday released an initial study on the environmental implications of a proposed Marine Oil Terminal Wharf Improvements project.

The Initial Study/Notice of Preparation (IS/NOP) is the first stage of the Environmental Impact Report (EIR) process, the Port said in a release.

A public meeting on the topic will be held at the Port’s administrative offices on Wednesday 8 August.

The wharf improvements project is intended for the Port’s Valero Terminal at Mormon Island in Los Angeles Harbour.

It is an area of environmental concern because the project would involve demolition of the existing wharf as well as construction of a new one.

This IS/NOP is posted at the Port’s website for public perusal. Feedback is invited with the possibility of suggestions being included in revisions.

The Port of Los Angeles is the busiest in the US by container volume.
