Prime Marine sells LR1 tankers to Hafnia

Athens: Greece’s Prime Marine Management has sold four modern LR1 products tankers to Danish owner Hafnia Tankers for an undisclosed sum.

Prime Marine has sold the Kihada (which will be renamed Hafnia Africa); Arctic Char (Hafnia Arctic); Maguro (Hafnia Asia); and the Karei (Hafnia Australia).

The vessels were all built in 2010 and are all of 75,000 dwt apart from the Maguro, which is 74,000 dwt.

The vessels will join the Straits Tankers LR1 pool later this month, which currently comprises 31 such vessels. Management of the pool is shared 50:50 between Hafnia Management and Japan’s MOL.

This new vessel acquisition is part of Hafnia Tankers’ aggressive fleet expansion strategy. The owner currently has eight 50,000-dwt MR product tankers on order in China for 2015-16 delivery. A further six 38,800-dwt MRs being built in South Korea and should hit the water later this year.
