Qatar set to double refining capability
Doha: Qatar Petroleum has signed a new agreement to set up a new refinery, Laffan 2, with Total, Idemitsu, Cozmo, Marubeni and Mitsui, doubling the nation’s refining capacity to 300,000 barrels a day.
Laffan 2 will work with a capacity of 146,000 barrels per day, and Qatargas will operate it. The new refinery will be able to produce 60,000 barrels per day of naphtha, 53,000 barrels of jet fuel, 24,000 barrels of gas oil, and 9,000 barrels per day of liquefied petroleum gas. The total cost of the project is $1.5bn, and it is expected to be completed in the second half of 2016. [22/04/13]
