Rowan awarded new contract and extension by BP

US offshore driller Rowan has secured a new contract as well as a contract extension from BP for two jackup rigs working offshore Trinidad and Tobago.

According to Rowan’s latest fleet status report, jackup rig Rowan EXL II has been awarded a one-year, five-well drilling program which is expected to commence in the first quarter of 2018.

Additionally, jackup rig Joe Douglas has received a one-year contract extension for a four-well drilling program plus option to extend for one additional well.

The financial terms of the new awards were not disclosed.

At the end of September, Rowan was linked to buying out Maersk Drilling in a $4bn deal.
