Boskalis wins dredging contract for new Abu Dhabi gas pipeline

The National Petroleum Construction Company of Abu Dhabi has awarded Royal Boskalis Westminster with a dredging contract related to the installation of Abu Dhabi National Oil Company’s new offshore gas pipeline.

Boskalis will dredge a more than 50-kilometre-long trench between Das Island and Ras Al Qila in onshore Abu Dhabi for the new pipeline installation.

Dredging work is scheduled to commence in phases from this quarter onwards and is expected to be completed in the second half of 2017.

The Netherlands-based company says it will deploy a medium-sized trailing suction hopper dredger and a large cutter suction dredger, as well as backhoe dredgers for dredging in shallow waters. Once installed, the pipeline will be backfilled.

Boskalis will also work to backfill an existing offshore pipeline with sand over a total distance of 34 kilometres, using a trailing suction hopper dredger. The pipeline is located in the vicinity of the new pipeline.
