Russian tanker catches fire in Caspian Sea, one dead

Russian tanker Palflot-2 caught fire while voyaging in the Caspian Sea near Turkmenistan waters on Friday.

According to information from Russian authorities, the tanker was not carrying any oil products and its tanks were filled with seawater as ballast.

Ten out of eleven crewmembers have been evacuated from the ship by another Russian vessel, and one crew died in the fire.

Currently the fire has been put out and authorities have started investigations on the incident.

The ship is owned and operated by Russian company, Astrakhan Shipping Service.
