RWE group charters six new ultramaxes from Spar Shipping

Germany’s RWE group has chartered six new ultramax bulk carriers from Norwegian shipowner Spar Shipping.

The bulkers have each been fixed on five-year timecharters at unreported “floating” rates. The ships’ owner has the option to fix a rate at any time, brokers’ reports say.

The ships are the Spar Aries (64,000 dwt, built 2015); Spar Pyxis (64,000 dwt, built 2015), Spar Apus (63,800 dwt, built 2015), and three unnamed newbuildings that are still under construction at China’s Jiangsu Hantong shipyard, with delivery scheduled for later this year.
