Seanergy confirms acquisition of capesize pair

Greece’s Seanergy Maritime Holdings has confirmed the purchase of two secondhand 180,000dwt capesizes for a price of $20.75m each.

Earlier in the month, Splash reported that Seanergy was in negotiations to buy three capesizes from Germany’s ER Schiffahrt for $62.25m en bloc. The rumoured vessels were ER Bayern, ER Bavaria and ER Boston.

All three of the vessels were built in 2010 at Korea’s Hyundai Heavy Industries, however with Seanergy only confirming the acquisition of two of the vessels, the fate of the third is unclear.

Stamatis Tsantanis, chairman and ceo of Seanergy, commented: “The acquisition price compares very favorably with similar secondhand Capesize vessels, which have averaged approximately $35 million over the past 5 years.”

The pair will be funded by secured loans and financing arrangements with the company’s sponsor, and are expected to be delivered between November 2016 and January 2017.
