Shanghai Shipyard to lay off 1,000 workers

CSSC-affiliated Shanghai Shipyard is going to lay off 1,000 employees by the end of this year, a source at the shipyard told Splash.

According to the source, the shipyard will start the layoff through various means including early retirement, contract termination and job transfers.

Like most shipyards, Shanghai Shipyard is suffering from a lack of new orders. So far this year it has won an order for four 2,500 teu containerships from Zhonggu Shipping and two survey vessels from two domestic geological survey institutes.
