Ships banned from calling in Yemen

Dubai: Shipowner body BIMCO has warned that navigation in Yemen’s territorial waters has been banned and ships are not allowed into Yemen unless inspected and approval by the Saudi-led coalition forces. The ban started on Sunday after Yemen’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs delegated the coalition forces to implement it.

It is understood that only emergency food and medical aid vessels will be allowed entry and even then only after being searched.

Meanwhile, Yemen halted output and exports from the country’s sole LNG plant as fighting in the area worsens.

Yemen LNG Co has declared force majeure. Yemen LNG processes and exports gas from the Marib area and has two trains with a total capacity of 6.7m metric tons a year. Total is the biggest shareholder in the venture.
