Siem lands German offshore wind farm cable contract

Oslo: Siem Offshore has announced that Siem Offshore Contractors, now part of the recently formed Siem Offshore Industrial Investments division, has won a contract for the turnkey supply and installation of inner array grid cable system for the 400 MW Veja Mate offshore wind farm.

In addition to the submarine cable installation works, Siem will supply the submarine composite cables, cable protection systems, accessories as well as post-installation termination, trenching and testing.

Veja Mate is located 115km off Germany, in the North Sea, and will consist of 67x 6 MW Siemens Wind Turbine Generators inter-connected by an inner array grid of 33 kV MVAC submarine composite cables with a total length of up to 97km.

The contract is valued at over €100m ($109.3m), with work due to begin in 2016, and completion scheduled before the end of 2017.
