Solstad Offshore wins Malaysia charter extension

Oslo: Solstad Offshore said it has received a letter of award from Murphy Sabah Oil for the charter of anchor handling tug supply vessel Normand Ivan (20,000 hp, built 2002).

The new contract has already commenced and is for a one year period, with a further one year option. The vessel has been supporting Murphy’s deepwater operations in Malaysia since 2004.

Solstad did not reveal any of the financial terms for the arrangement, however Mike Meade, ceo of offshore broker M3 Marine, told Splash today that charter rates in Southeast Asia are generally off between 10% to 15% from last year.
