Splash editor to run London Marathon for Sailors’ Society

Splash editor Sam Chambers is running this year’s London Marathon with his fiancée Eliza Jaroni. The couple will be running the 42 km through the UK capital in support of the Sailors’ Society.

April will mark Eliza’s first ever marathon and the second time out for Sam at London. Urgently needed training kicked off in December in the mountains of the Pyrenees.

“Few industries in the world are as shielded from daily public life as seafaring,” commented Sam. “The 1.3 million men and women who move cargoes across the seas, largely out of sight, make the way we live our lives possible. There are plenty of shocking hardships that this invisible workforce has to endure, something that we at Splash have made a priority to highlight. In some ways seafaring is about very everyday hardships – loneliness and isolation – as much as anything truly shocking. Sailors’ Society provides invaluable help to these people right around the world.”
