Splash TV: Shipping and offshore stuck in the 1990s

Watch as a leading name in the OSV sector hits out at shipping and offshore’s mid-1990s mindset when it comes to the adoption of technology.

Speaking as part of a diverse digital panel at the Maritime CEO Forum earlier this month, Venkatraman Sheshashayee, a columnist for this site and the CEO of Singapore’s Miclyn Express Offshore, blasted the industry for being so far behind many other sectors when in terms of tech capabilities.

Many developments maritime companies are working on today other sectors have had since the mid-1990s, he observed. The huge changes coming in the next five years would leave many lost, he predicted. “As an industry we are not prepared,” he said. “We need to change minds to cope with this huge revolution around us.”

Maritime CEO Forum was sponsored by Cobham, Compas, Dualog, DVB Bank, Liberian Registry, Marlink, OSM Group, ShipServ, Veritas Petroleum Services and Wartsila. The next forum takes place in Hong Kong on October 2.
