Star Bulk acquires secondhand supramax bulker

Greek owner Star Bulk Carriers has acquired a six-year-old Chinese-built supramax bulker.

The 56,582 dwt bulker, built at Jiangsu Hantong Shipyard, was acquired from an unnamed, unaffiliated third party. Brokers indicate the vessel is Bariba Corporation’s Privaegean.

Star Bulk said the acquisition will be part financed through debt secured from a financial institution.

The vessel is scheduled to be delivered to Star Bulk next month, increasing its fleet to 74 vessels inclusive of three ships currently under construction in China.
