Survey suggests Baltic Dry Index has still not bottomed out

Singapore: With ten days to go in Maritime CEO’s latest online survey, there is clearly a downcast mood among respondents. The survey, which takes just two minutes to fill in and requires no registration, has seen more than 360 people fill it in in the past week alone.

Alarmingly for dry bulk owners, 56% of respondents believe the Baltic Dry Index has still not bottomed out.

“Overcapacity is far from over,” one respondent noted, while another suggested the BDI could slip further, notching up historical lows. The BDI has hovered at close to all-time lows for much of this year.

The survey, dubbed MarPoll, asks nine topical questions – from broadband at sea to shipyard overcapacity – and the results will be announced in the June issue of Maritime CEO magazine, which will be distributed at Nor-Shipping. Voting is easy – and comments are also welcomed. Click here to take the survey.
