Taiwan Council for Economic Planning and Development CEPD approved a development plan for Taiwan's major commercial ports on Tuesday to support port business on the island. The total funding of this plan will reach NT65.975bn.
According to CEPD, the plan includes the development of Keelung port, Taipei port, Taichung port, Kaohsiung port and some other ports, and will effectively improve the service ability of the terminals and strengthen their competitiveness.
To compete with other global ports, in addition to the improvement of terminal facilities, the plan also covers cruise business and will develop cruise hubs at Keelung and Kaohsiung, Zhang Yafu, senior director of planning dept of Taiwan port corporation said. It is expected the Kaohsiung cruise centre will be completed by 2016. [08/08/12]
