Thun Tankers declares option for fifth tanker at Avic Dingheng

Small product tanker specialist Thun Tankers, part of the Gothia Tanker Alliance network, has declared an option for a fifth tanker to be added to its order for a series of 17,500 dwt product/chemical tankers on order at China’s Avic Dingheng Shipbuilding.

The original order for four vessels was placed in April, with all five of the vessels scheduled for delivery in 2019 and 2020. Thun Tankers said increasing the order will widen its client offering and position as a leading provider of safe, sustainable, and efficient transportation.

Anders Källsson, CEO of Erik Thun AB, commented: “All the ordered newbuildings are following our long tradition of carefully tailor making vessels to meet and exceed our clients’ high demands.”

Thun Tankers and its other alliance members, Furetank Rederi and Rederi AB Älvtank, ordered a total of six LNG-fuelled 16,300 dwt tankers at AVIC Dingheng in 2015 with one of them set to go to Thun, three to Furetank and two to Älvtank.
