Twice as nice for McDermott with Qatar and Saudi deals

Houston: McDermott International doubled up on Monday with the announcement of two contracts in the Middle East – one offshore Qatar and the other offshore Saudi Arabia.

In the Qatar deal, Houston-headquartered McDermott is contracted by Qatar Petroleum to provide a new wellhead jacket, temporary deck and replacement umbilical for the North Field Alpha gas development. The six-legged jacket and temporary drill deck will have a total weight of approximately 5,000 tons.

The contract also includes the decommissioning, removal, replacement and pre-commissioning of 2.6 miles of composite umbilical and a fiber optic cable, in the Maydan Mahzam field.

The Saudi deal, awarded by Saudi Aramco, is for a significant power supply system replacement in the Marjan field. Work will involve replacement of the decks of two existing tie-in platforms, as well as the removal and salvage of existing gas turbine generators, and the installation of two new 115kV subsea power and communication cables.
