USCG airlift ailing crewman from bulker offshore Massachusetts

A US Coast Guard (USCG) search and rescue team medevaced a crewman from a bulk carrier about 130 miles off Cape Cod, Massachusetts, the USCG announced.

The 28-year-old Ukrainian man aboard the Alice Oldendorff was reported to have stomach pains and USCG crews aboard an HC-144a Casa and a MH-60 Jayhawk Helicopter responded to help.

The cargo ship, based in Portugal, was en route from Canada to New York but redirected towards Cape Cod to facilitate a speedier airlift.

While the plane crew provided communications cover, the helicopter successfully removed the crewman. He was taken to Cape Cod Hospital in Hyannis for treatment.
