USCG looks into how tanker collided with moored sailboats

The US Coast Guard (USCG) is looking into how a tanker departing Portsmouth, New Hampshire, managed to collide with three moored sailboats near the mouth of the Piscataqua River, according to the Associated Press.

The 2004-built Chem Venus, carrying a load of used vegetable oil and other industrial chemicals to Teesport in the UK, sustained damage to its bow and took on water as observed by USCG inspectors.

All three of the sailboats were damaged but all remained afloat. There was nobody aboard them and no injuries reported from the tanker.

USCG was also monitoring the water for any sign of pollution related to the incident.
