Vessel catches fire off Vung Tau

Ho Chi Minh City: General cargo vessel Golden 168 (9,106dwt, built 2008) caught fire early Sunday morning while docking off Vung Tau, southern Vietnam.

Vietnam’s maritime search and rescue centre was alerted around 3am on Sunday, when a fire broke out on the vessel and began to spread. It is believed that the vessel stopped at Vung Tau for repair while en-route to Hong Kong, although it is not known if the cause of the fire was linked to the issue which local press said was engine related.

The vessel was carrying over 6,000 of coconut flour, and was operating with a crew of twenty. The fire was contained by 9am and no injuries were reported.
