Vietnamese coal port project suspended

Hanoi: Vietnam National Coal and Mineral Industries Group (Vinacomin) has decided to stop the construction of Ke Ga deepwater port in Binh Thuan Province.

The project had a total investment of around VN$8trn for the first phase.

Tran Van Chieu, deputy general director of Vinacomin, told local media that constructing the port at the Ke Ga area is technically inappropriate and might get a low economic return. The group is considering a new location in Vinh Tan Port to develop the project to save investment costs, Chieu added. [04/03/13]
