Viken orders four tankers at Samsung Heavy

Norway’s Viken has ordered four oil tankers at Samsung Heavy Industries in South Korea in a deal worth KRW 240bn ($220m), Yonhap reports.

Two of the tankers will be 123,000-dwt aframaxes; the other two will be 157,000-dwt suezmaxes.

No further details about the order or the vessels’ technical specification were disclosed.

This is only the second new order Samsung Heavy has won since the year began, the first being GasLog’s KRW420bn ($373.5m) order for two 180,000-cbm LNG carriers. The deal was reportedly finalised two weeks ago.

Samsung Heavy’s orderbook currently only covers 11% of its annual $5.3bn target. The yard told Yonhap more deals could be in the works, including construction of offshore facilities.
