VLOC berths for Ningbo

Shanghai: The port of Ningbo-Zhoushan has become the latest on the mainland to indicate it will build berths capable of handling giant 400,000dwt VLOCs such as those ordered by Vale two years ago.

Officials at the port are waiting for final approval from Beijing before construction can start on these berths. The port is widely acknowledged as the finest natural deepwater harbour in China. Construction will take two to three years.

The impasse over the Vale VLOCs calling China is likely to pass soon as the Brazillian miner has offloaded a segment of its giant new fleet to Polaris of Turkey.  [13/09/12]
