Vopak and AltaGas to develop propane export terminal in British Columbia

Netherlands-based Royal Vopak and Canadian natural gas distribution firm AltaGas are teaming up in a joint venture to develop the first propane export terminal on the west coast of Canada.

The Ridley Island Propane Export Terminal (RIPET) will be located near Prince Rupert in British Columbia on land leased by Ridley Terminals from the Prince Rupert Port Authority. It is well located for supplying the prime markets in Asia.

With about 96,000 cubic metres of storage capacity planned, the terminal is intended to ship about 1.2m tonnes of propane annually.

RIPET is expected to be commissioned in the first quarter of 2019.
