Work under way to free tug and barge grounded off Galveston, Texas

Tug boats were working on Monday to free an unladen barge and tug that became grounded off East Beach on Galveston Island, Texas.

The 33-metre tug Peter F Gellatly and the barge were waiting out the severe weather in the area that had been exacerbated by remnants of Hurricane Patricia when the high winds caused the pair to drag anchor run aground in a rocky shallow off the island.

The six-person crew were unharmed according to US Coast Guard (USCG). There was no oil leak and according to initial estimates, no serious damage to the hull.

The tail end of the hurricane brought heavy rains and 40mph winds to southeast Texas.
