Workers walk out at Malta Freeport

Activity at parts of Malta Freeport has been halted after workers walked out in protest last night over scheduled annual pay rises that were less than expected.

Many workers said the salary increases were lower than what was outlined in the collective agreement, The Times of Malta reports.

A meeting between port management and Malta’s General Workers’ Union (GWU) is reportedly being held today.

The strike was not ordered by the union, which told press it would continue to safeguard workers’ interests.
