World-Link Communications: Increased costs as demand for data escalates

Framingham: The shipping industry must prepare itself for greater costs for shipboard communications, a leader in the field tells Maritime CEO today.

Asad Salameh, president of America’s World-Link Communications, says, “Maritime SATCOM will continue to have an increased cost especially as the demand for more data continues to escalate.”

Salameh says he sees successful products as those that deliver value to the shipmanager; are very well supported, and go beyond delivering the commodity service of airtime and bandwidth.

World-Link has recently taken on Telaccount Overseas which was the vessel communications arm of Bernhard Schulte ShipManagement (BSM). The company provides maritime communication services at all levels to approximately 1,000 vessels worldwide.

“We believe that in today’s operational demands for increased bandwidth, SATCOMs onboard play a critical role in improving the competitiveness of the fleet,” Salameh says.
