World Tankers Management not averse to third party business

Singapore: While not actively seeking new business one of Singapore’s most respected shipmanagers is willing to take on some third party work. World Tankers Management (WTM), the Singapore dedicated shipmanager for Greece’s Polyar Shipping, has 17 ships on its books, plus one more 50,000 dwt product tanker to deliver on October 8, all of which are owned by Polys Haji-Ioannou. The fleet is a mix of aframaxes, chemical tankers and MR product tankers. One of 20-year-old WTM’s strengths is in its knowledge of Indonesian trades.
“We are not actively seeking third party management,” said WTM’s managing director Chris Kirton, “but we have been approached twice recently though neither one quite worked out due to owners financing problems, we can take on some extra ships for the right owner.”
Kirton said any managed fleet that he handled should not exceed 30 vessels as the optimum in order to maintain quality management.
WTM was the first Singapore company to obtain ISO 14001:2004 accreditation from Lloyd’s Register.  [25/09/12]
