Wuhan Shipping Exchange to open this year

Shanghai: The Yangtze river city of Wuhan is to commence the operation of its own shipping exchange this year to provide an integrated service platform for commercial shipping, becoming the eighth city in China to open such a platform.

The shipping exchange will mainly focus on the Yangtze river, and expects to achieve RMB10bn($161m) trading volume by 2019.

Wuhan is the largest inland shipbuilding and repair base of the Yangtze river. There are over 700 shipping-related companies and the port is the largest on the middle reaches of China’s longest river.

Chongqing and Nanjing are other Yangtze cities to have established shipping exchanges.
