10 missing as SOCAR platform collapses in high winds

An oil platform belonging to Azerbaijan’s SOCAR has collapsed in the Caspian Sea and ten workers are missing. The accident happened during high winds.

Ships of the Ministry of Emergency Situations and the Caspian Shipping Company are conducting a search and rescue operation. An investigation has started into how the platform collapsed.

Twelve months ago 32 people died when a fire broke out on another SOCAR platform.
