11 missing following another HK ship collision

Hong Kong: Another ship collision in the busy waters of Hong Kong looks to have claimed lives. The containership MOL Motivator smashed into a small Chinese vessel carrying cement at 02.30hrs this morning, with the latter ship sinking. Just one of the 12 crew onboard the Chinese vessel has been rescued so far.

The accident happened off Hong Kong’s Po Toi Islands, at the far limit of its maritime boundary. Search and rescue operations are still underway with Guangdong and Hong Kong authorities scouring the area.

An investigation into the accident will get underway shortly.  Hong Kong has been hit by a spate of accidents in the past couple of years.  [05/05/14]
