41 crew left stranded in Indonesia

Jakarta: Another shocking tale of crew neglect amid the downturn has come to light with news that 41 Ukranian crewmembers aboard a reefer ship have been stranded in Indonesia with very little supplies for the past four months.

The Panamanian flagged Ocean Green has been moored in Galang Island waters, part of the Riau Islands, since July following a charter dispute. Both the Panamanian and Ukrainian embassies in Jakarta have been contacted recently as the visas for the stranded crew expired last week.

Ocean Green was chartered by Oceanic, a Singaporean company and racked up around $400,000 in unpaid charter fees.
Local reports say food and water onboard is scarce and a number of the sailors have fallen ill.  [12/11/14]
