7,000 Yangtze ships set to be scrapped

Shanghai: The Ministry of Transport announced today that Changjiang Administration of Navigational Affairs has allocated RMB1.51bn subsidies to dismantle and convert 7,087 old vessels with a total capacity of 3.36m dwt.

The Ministry of Transport released a guidance on LNG-powered vessels on September 2, in which it encourages the dismantling of old vessels and promotes the standardization of ship types on inland rivers. [05/09/13]
