75,000 boxes still waiting to be claimed in Manila

Manila: The Bureau of Customs says there are still some 75,000 containers to be claimed at the Manila International Container Port and the Port of Manila, as the congestion saga at the capital’s ports continues to hog headlines.

The Philippine Ports Authority announced that international carriers have started sending sweepers to take their empty containers from the two ports. The target is to remove most of the containers by August 15.

Alphaliner cited congestion in Manila as well as Tunisia as the major reason for the three-year low percentage of the container fleet being idled, in its most recently weekly report. [05/08/14]
