Cosco exercises options for four pulp carriers

Cosco Shipping Specialized Carriers, the multi-purpose shipping unit of China Cosco Shipping, has exercised options for the construction of four 62,000 dwt pulp carriers at Cosco Shipping Heavy Industry’s Dalian yard.

The option was attached to a firm order of five 62,000 dwt pulp carriers the company placed at the yard in November last year.

Delivery of latest four vessels are scheduled in 2021.

The company said the four additional vessels will help the company realize its development strategy and catch the opportunities from the global pulp trade.

China is one of the largest forestry products importers in the world, having imported 24.78m tons of pulp in 2018, a year-on-year growth of 4.5%, according to statistics from China Customs.
