Size of Indian Ocean piracy High Risk Area reduced
The round table of international shipping associations plus the OCIMF representing the global shipping and oil industry have announced that the geographic boundaries of the High Risk Area (HRA) for piracy in the Indian Ocean have been reduced, while stressing that a serious threat remains
Ambrey Risk has produced a useful map, carried below, showing the changes. Piracy off the Horn of Africa has reduced in recent years while on the other side of the continent, in the Gulf of Guinea, attacks have spiked.
The HRA will be adjusted again if and when the situation demands it, the group of shipping organisations stated in a release.
Just odd that the industry and not the naval forces is behind the decision to reduce the size of HRA
