Once tipped for the top post, Claus Hemmingsen will step down as vice CEO at A.P. Møller – Mærsk at the end of June having been with the Danish conglomerate since 1981.
In recent years Hemmingsen has been tasked with offloading Maersk’s energy-related businesses as the company focuses on its container-related businesses. Hemmingsen, as CEO of Maersk’s energy division, oversaw the separation of Maersk Tankers, Maersk Oil and Maersk Drilling, a process that will culminate this June with the closure of the energy division after $12bn of sales and Hemmingsen’s departure.
“Claus embodies the values of A.P. Moller – Maersk and is an outstanding leader who has made many significant contributions to the company,”stated Søren Skou, CEO of A.P. Moller – Maersk, today.

I wish Søren Skou and all my colleagues all the best with the continued transformation and development of A.P. Moller – Maersk,” Hemmingsen stated in a release today.
The company will host a farewell reception for Hemmingsen at Maersk Headquarters on June 19.
