Furetank orders new product tanker to replace sold vessel

Sweden’s Furetank Rederi has signed a contract with AVIC Dingheng Shipbuilding for a 17,999 dwt dual fuel product tanker.

The vessel is the same design as a series of newbuilds built by the yard for Furetank, Älvtank and Erik Thun. It is scheduled to be delivered in the fourth quarter of 2020, and the contract includes an option for a further vessel.

Furetank says it has ordered the vessel to replace Fure Vinga, which has been sold to Canadian buyers.

Lars Höglund, CEO of Furetank, commented: ”In the year that has passed since the FURE VINGA was delivered we have had a lot of interest in our new vessels and the benefit they offer to the environment through reduced emissions and less noise. We are selling the vessel with mixed feelings, but the commitment from her new owners, who also trade in winter climate with stringent environmental regulations, is also a confirmation that we have succeeded when designing the FURE VINGA. To replace her in our fleet we have therefore decided to order at least one further vessel at Avic Dingheng.”
